It has been a while since we last time added new gaming teams under our flag. We have been looking for few directions at this time, considering different games and teams, but never really finding the right fit. After our succesfull StarCraft II tournament we have been very interested about the game, itīs going to be huge and finnish players are among the european top players. Now we have finally found the right game and the right player.
So itīs my great pleasure to announce that Team Menace.fi will be taking itīs first steps to the world of Real-time strategy games and introduce our StarCraft II dueler Samuli "Fuzer" Romppanen!  Fuzer will be representing Menace at Inferno Online League SC2 CUP at Stockholm, Sweden next weekend. In the tournament 16 players will battle it out for 10000 kr + TV. Half of the players are chosen in qualifier tournament, which has almost 100 players registered. Another half, including Fuzer, are invited straight into the main tournament.
I grapped the newest member of Menace-family to a short interview:
Hello and welcome, could you introduce yourself?
Hi. I'm Samuli "Fuzer" Romppanen. I'm 21 years old guy from Kellokoski, Finland. I play StarCraft II as a terran.
Could you tell about your gaming history?
When I was a 13 year old kid I saw one of my friends bigbrother playing StarCraft. After that I lost my soul to RTS games. I bought it myself and played it on a casual level. Few years after that WarCraft 3 came out. I bought it immediately. I loved the game, it was great. But still, due to the pretty boring scene with the same maps year after year it just started to bore.
It felt like I've seen this already so I decided to quit at 2007. Now after few years of school, military service etc. I got hooked again, that same RTS heart started to burn again. Starcraft 2 beta came out. =)
How do you like SC2 compared to other RTS titles?
I think that it is easy to get into it. With a great ladder system, even a new player gets matches of his own skill level. In StarCraft II itīs important to know what the enemy does, you can't blindly rush into the best unit of the game, actually there is no "best unit". Blizzard has made a game where every unit is useful and every unit has a counter. But it still doesn't mean that itīs all about rock-paper-scissors. I mean, with a worse unit or unit combination you can still beat your enemy with good micromanagement.
Why did you choose the Terran race?
Before I played a single game, I just chose to play as a terran. And after the first game I haven't changed my mind.
Are you better at micro or macro?
This is an interesting question. Actually last week I had a thought, "Why my ladder rank was not in the same level of my tournament rankings". After that I thought the differences of my ladder play and tournament play. Usually on ladder I went straight to second expansion, with defensive play. But on tournaments I preferred aggressive playstyle with low amount of units and tried to keep it on that way.
So, I have to say that im better on Micro. And my Warcraft 3 background says the same. Because Warcraft3 is a micro game.
You are attending Inferno Online League SC2 CUP at Stockholm, Sweden next weekend. What are your expectations for the tournament?
Well, It became as a total surprise that I don't even have to qualify into finals, they gave me invitation. But anyways, I will most likely train hard when the game comes out (Monday/Tuesday night) and try to improve myself and get myself into shape of my life and hopefully end up in TOP 4, which is my goal.
